Demons are species that are native to Hell. Almost all of them are man-eating to an extent, and can often be recognized by their blackened sceleras, adapted to life in Hell's harsh, cave-like environment. Demons can enter and exit the surface world through a few locations, one of which being the cave to Hell in Grimagor.
Harpy
Humanoid intelligence
Max age ~90 years
Carnivorous, primarily eat large beasts and cattle, prefer humanoids
Harpies are large, bird-like demons. They stand around 7 feet tall on average, but can be up to 10 feet tall, with equally broad wingspans. They have humanoid faces and breasts. While the majority of harpies are female, male harpies do exist and are not too uncommon.
Harpies are vicious hunters. They have been known to both stalk and target specific people while they are alone, and swarm suddenly in groups of up to 10 or more if they're targeting multiple people at once. They rely on suddenly swooping out and catching their prey by surprise, grabbing or clawing into them using their talons and either ripping them apart or lifting them high into the air and dropping them. Usually, harpies eat part of the prey as soon as they die, before taking the lighter load back to their nest.
Harpies, as demons, are found primarily in the caves of Hell. There have, however, been reports of harpy dens being found in the caves or thick woods of Grimagor, primarily on the South West island, closer to the demon cave they originated from. Harpies are relatively strong fliers in short bursts. They can fly quickly and carry great loads for only up to an hour at max. They struggle with long-distance migration or sustained flight (primarily due to their size and weight - lighter than a human relatively, but still large and rather clunky for flight). This is one of the big reasons harpy dens have never been reliably spotted more than 1000 miles from the Grimagorian Hell cave.
Siren
Humanoid intelligence
Max age ~60 years
Carnivorous, primarily eat humanoids and an abundance of fish
Sirens are aquatic demons. They have the torso, arms, and face of a humanoid, with the rest of their body resembling a large fish.Their humanoid body is around 2 feet long, with their entire bodies being on average 8 feet long. Their humanoid upper halves mostly lack internal organs- they do not have lungs and rely on their gills to breath, their digestive tract begins below their waist, and they do not lactate. One of few organs they do have in their humanoid halves is a complicated system of vocal chords, which allows them to produce beautiful and hypnotic singing.
Sirens primarily feed on sailors, and any other unfortunate humanoids they can manage to lure in with their beauty and their song. Once a humanoid comes close enough, the siren grabs them, drags them into the water and holds them in their pincer-like jaws until they drown, before tearing them apart and eating them. When unable to feed on humanoids, sirens primarily eat a large amount of fish, as well as any mammalian beast they can manage to kill.
Sirens are primarily found in Hell, and in the southern oceans near Grimagor’s coast. Occasionally, they can be spotted throughout the channels separating the islands, though this has grown increasingly rare over the years. Sirens migrate from Hell using underground channels during the summer. Because they prefer warm waters, they will generally retreat back into the boiling oceans of Hell during colder months.
Naga
Humanoid intelligence
Max age ~200 years
Carnivorous, primarily eat medium to large beasts and prefer humanoids
Naga are demons with the lower halves of snakes and the upper halves of humanoids. Their humanoid bodies are approximately 3 to 4 feet long. Their tails vary greatly in length, Naga have been reported to be anywhere from 8 feet long in total, to 20 feet long. They are venomous, and possess dangerous fangs that they use to paralyze their prey before unhinging their jaws to eat them whole.
Naga enjoy feeding on humanoids, but will settle for any large amount of meat. They have been known to venture out into the woods of Grimagor, feasting on local cattle and beasts, and attacking any humanoids they encounter. These sightings have become increasingly rare, however. Naga are very intelligent, and as security and Grimagorian technology improves, they choose to stay in Hell more and more and not risk going to the surface.
Naga are not always dangerous to humanoids. They can be appeased with sacrifices or other offerings, and have been known to make deals with humanoids in exchange for riches, knowledge, or easier passage into Hell. This is still very much not advisable, though.
Vampire
Humanoid intelligence
Max age ~1000 years
Solely blood drinkers, prefer humanoids
Vampires are humanoid demons with prominent hollow fangs that they use to drink blood from their prey. They are strictly blood drinkers and do not consume anything else. They heavily prefer the blood of humanoids, but will settle for that of other mammalian beasts.
Besides their fangs and the characteristic black sclera of their eyes that most demons have, vampires look remarkably humanoid. Older vampires can sometimes be identified by their gaunt and hollow faces, resembling the deceased more than an actual old humanoid.
Vampires often rely on trickery to get near humanoids, using their normal appearances to their advantage. Vampires, however, do not pose much of a risk to Grimagor. They choose to stay mostly in Hell, or in small, isolated communities throughout Grimagor, knowing that they would be swiftly killed if they were too obvious.
Succubi / Incubi
Humanoid intelligence
Max age ~400 years
Carnivorous, primarily eat large beasts and prefer humanoids
Succubi/Incubi are shapeshifting demons. In their normal forms, they appear as 5 to 6 foot tall winged humanoids. They can appear in a variety of forms, mostly choosing to resemble attractive humanoids. While Succubi and Incubi are two distinct sexes of the same species, it is not uncommon for individuals to use shapeshifting to change their sexual organs for the purpose of reproduction (or to better represent their gender).
Succubi and Incubi can only reproduce with others of their own species. They have sexual relations with non-demon humanoids purely for the purpose of attacking the humanoid when theyre vulnerable and eating them.
When they aren't able to access humanoids to eat, they often instead resort to hunting and eating the meat of large mammalian beasts.
Banshee
Humanoid intelligence
Max age ~1000 years
Feeds off humanoid sadness and grief
Banshee are humanoid demons recognized by their gaunt, hollow faces, tall and skinny frames, and lack of teeth. They survive off of the suffering and sadness of intelligent beings, mostly humanoids, which they can “absorb” as a form of energy rather than a literal food source.
Banshees will often travel to their food sources, following the trail of war or disaster to reap the rewards. Being fed on by a banshee is not terribly harmful. It may make an individual nauseous, light headed and extremely tired, sometimes for days or months on end, but it very rarely results in death unless by the humanoid's own actions.
Banshees are of humanoid intelligence, but are usually not very confrontational. However, when they are especially weak or hungry, they may do things to exacerbate the sadness and negativity around them. For instance, they may sob and scream loudly in the middle of the night, purposefully leave distressing marks on buildings or trees, or linger in view of windows. Rarely, banshees may take more drastic measures to cause distress, such as stealing or killing babies or livestock.
Night hag
Slightly below humanoid intelligence
Max age ~100 years
Carnivorous, eat mammals of varying size, prefer humanoids
Night hags are small, skinny humanoid demons with no hair and pale skin. They normally walk on all fours, using both feet and clawed hands. They have very sharp teeth and long tongues.
Night hags are usually slightly below average humanoid intelligence. As their name suggests, they are entirely nocturnal. They are opportunistic predators, usually hunting beasts of all kinds within dense forests or killing livestock.
Night hags will and have attacked humanoids. They will sneak through open or unlocked windows and eat people in their sleep. However, they are relatively weak and can be fought off relatively easily if you see them coming.
Imp
Humanoid intelligence
Max age ~100 years
Carnivorous, eat a variety of meat, prefer humanoids (especially goblins)
Imps are small humanoids with large, floppy ears and sharp little teeth. They resemble goblins, besides their black sceleras and their skin, which comes in various shades of red and magenta instead of green.
Imps are obligate carnivores. They have a variety of food sources, although they prefer to eat other humanoids. Imp attacks on humanoids are rare, however, due to their distinct appearances which make it difficult for them to blend into surface-level society. Imps are of humanoid level intelligence, and are plenty capable of obtaining food through other methods.
